In today’s adventure, Regel cooks up a plan to eliminate all the women on Earth by turning them into flowers. Love certainly does make you do… odd things.

Episode 38 Notes:
Rougirafflesia – This Trinoid is made from rouge (as in lipstick), a giraffe, and a rafflesia.

“No, we’ve been connected by a red string long before that.”
What Regel is referring to is a common Japanese (and Chinese for that matter) legend. The red string of fate (also called the red thread of destiny). According to this myth, the gods tie a red cord around the little fingers of those that are to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. The two bound by this string are destined to become lovers, regardless of circumstance.

There’s no Bracchio one-liner for either of these episodes, nor are there any notes for episode 39.

See you guys next week!

Unknown to the people, unknown to the world, the ninjas blow in like a gust of wind! Here’s the fun thing about this movie: It… really doesn’t fit anywhere in Abaranger’s continuity. The closest set-up this could possibly be is DURING episode 32, but there was a lot of things going on then, so probably not. That said, it also can’t be any later than 32 because of certain characters being absent or different. We just decided to release this after 37 to minimize all potential spoilers.

vs. Hurricanger Notes:
Spyle – The Hurricanger villain faction is named Jakanja. Combining “jaaku (evil, vile)” with “kanja (spy)”.

Bracchio’s Line – “Swoosh, swoosh and I appear-bra!”
This obviously comes from Hurricanger’s OP.

See you guys next week!

This week: Kids grow up so fast. And it’s about time for Reje to go through her own growth spurt. One release this week because the next episode begins a two-parter.  But we’ll get to that when we get to it.

Episode 37 Notes:
Tragic – This Trinoid is named after Mahler’s Symphony No. 6, Tragic.

Bracchio’s Line – “A man’s willpower is not for show. It is to protect your smile till the end-bra!”
This comes from Nebula Mask Machine Man’s ED “Ore no Na wa Machine Man” or “My Name is Machine Man”.

See you guys next week, when a special gust of wind blows into town.

In this week’s adventures: first Ranru shows off her cosplay skills in a gambit to keep a dangerous treasure away from a Trinoid. Afterward, Tricera wishes upon a star and becomes human. What kind of hijinks will ensure? You’ll have to watch to find out!

Episode 35 Notes:
Vulycheeasure – The Trinoid’s name is Hagetakarachee. Vulture (hagetaka), treasure (takara) and lychee (pronounced rachii).

“I’m part of the Dynasaur Squad, but this year I’m following the Tigers’ Hoshino’s example!”
This requires some explanation. Ranru is referring to Senichi Hoshino, a former professional base ball player and current manager. In 2003 (when Abaranger was airing), he was in charge of the Hanshin Tigers and led them to a championship victory. You can read more about him here.

Episode 36 Notes:
Miracle – This Giganoid is based on Haydn’s Symphony No. 96 “Miracle”.

Bracchio’s Line – “He dreams too, doesn’t he-bra?”
This comes from Special Investigator Robo Janperson’s ED, “Asayake no Lullaby” or “Morning Glow Lullaby”.

We’re taking a small break this week, but we’ll be back with more Abaranger the week after!

After that heavy episode last week, it’s time to wind back and relax with two adventures: the first, dealing with the aftermath of last episode… oh. And the second, where Mikoto very nearly destroys the Milky Way. You know, as you do.

Episode 33 Notes:
Bellflazuleech – The Trinoid for this episode is Hirurindou. His name comes from Leech (hiru), lapis lazuli (ruri) and a bellflower (rindou).

Bracchio’s Line #1 – “My friend! My dear friend, can you see these tears?”
This comes from The Magnificent Zubat’s OP.

Bracchio’s Line #2 – “There once was a man who fought bravely. For his sake as well, we will not lose-bra!”
This comes from Skyrider’s ED, “Harukanaru Ai ni Kakete” or “In Distant Love”.

Episode 34 Notes:
Jupiter – This Giganoid is based on Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”.

All the scientists in this episode are played by the VAs for the Dynasaurs. In order of their first speaking lines: Banjo Ginga (Bracchio), Emi Shinohara (Ptera), Hiroshi Iida (Stego), and Sayaka Aida (Bachy).

One episode this week, but it deems its own release. Please enjoy the climax of the Asuka and Jeanne fight and the unofficial third part of Abare Max’s introduction.

Episode 32 Notes:
Bracchio’s Line – “Let your loneliness strengthen your love… And trust in the day when you can smile and meet again-bra.”
This comes from the Space Sheriff Gavan’s ED, “Hoshizora no Message” or “Starry Sky Message”.

Max excitement. Max power. Max hype. This week’s two-parter introduces Ryoga’s power up in the form of Abare Max. Quite a few interesting things happen this week, so enjoy!

Episode 30 Notes:
Bracchio’s Line – “Wait-bra! Live-bra! I’ll definitely make it there-bra!”
This comes from the Rescue Sentai GoGoV OP.

Episode 31 Notes:
Coupling Berserker Crasygishia – The name for the monstrosity Voff is making is Barugigenia. Which is a corruption of the word for crayfish (which is what this is based on). Michela mishears this as “harumaki mania”, or “spring roll mania” but we changed this to reflect the translated name and to keep the mishearing joke.

Not many notes this week. See you guys next week!

Things are heating up this week. First, Asuka fights off a rather devilish Trinoid kidnapping brides and we get a scene that frankly surprises me how they got past the censors.

Afterwards, Reje and Dr. Nakadai go out for a day of fun and relaxation and absolutely nothing important happens. Totally.

Episode 28 Notes:
Prescribalsameleon – This Trinoid’s name is Shohousenkameleon. Made up of medical prescriptions (shohou), impatiens flowers (housenka) and a chameleon (relying on the cha sounding like ka).

“How about a taste of Ozu?”
This is going to require some explanation. Suke’s refering to Yasujiro Ozu, a famous Japanese film director and screenwriter. He was born in 1903, so the 100th anniversary of his birth was during Abaranger’s airing time, which was in 2003. Suke and Emmy are actually parodying one of Ozu’s more famous works, “Late Spring” (which in the episode itself is “Late Summer”).

Bracchio’s Line – “Our hearts ignite-bra, and now they burn-bra!”
This comes from the Strikeforce Sentai Changeman OP.

Episode 29 Notes:
Copeppotter – This Trinoid’s name is Rakkopiiman. Made from a sea otter (rakko), a copy machine (kopii), and a green pepper (piiman).

This Trinoid has a voice ending quirk as well. He ends his sentences in “manpii”, which is “pepper” flipped backwards. We used the word “pepper” in different variations to show this.

“Green, Green”
Telefatsidile is singing snippets of “Green, Green”. The full song, if you want to listen to it, is here. The original version of which is this.

Reje’s song:
This also requires explanation. The first verse of her song is actually a scrambled (yet somewhat recognizable) anagram of an actual sentence. The original sentence is written as: “アイナイータ ナハリドノーレ,ウインニメナ イルーヨノ”, which is: “あなたはどれいになるの, いいなり うんめいよ” or “You will become a slave, doing as you are told is your fate.” I couldn’t think of a particularly good way to handle this, translation wise, but I decided to just flip the words backwards. It’s odd because the rest of the song is normal and straightlaced.

Bracchio’s Line – “As the ancients say, “Life has its ups and downs”-bra.”
This really doesn’t come from anything specific. Bracchio is just doing a general quote and proverb.

See you guys next week!

In this week’s adventures, we have some fun times ahead with probably one of the strangest episodes in Sentai. Fishing anyone?

Afterwards, it’s a criss-cross crisis as a Trinoid switches Ryoga and Yukito and hijinks ensue!

Episode 26 Notes:
Fishing Fool’s Diary – As you probably guessed, this is a real show and it aired (at least the anime anyway) from 2002-2003. More info here!

Yumdum Fruit – The Japanese used is “Maukaba”. Flip that around and it’s “baka uma”, or “stupidly delicious”.

Fishingfonitolive – This Trinoid’s name is Tsuribakatsuolive. Fishing fool (tsuribaka), a bonito fish (katsuo) and olives.

The Dynasaurs Lines –
Are all making reference to different characters from Tsuribaka Nisshi. Mr. Sue is Hamasaki’s boss, Koitaro is obviously his son, and Michiko is his wife.

Episode 27 Notes:
Ivoctatsu – This Trinoid’s name is Tsutakotatsu. Ivy (tsuta), an octopus (tako) and a kotatsu (see below).

This Trinoid also joins the club of having theme specific sentence endings. This trinoid ends most of his sentences with “tako”, which means “octopus”. We remedied that with combing various words with “octo” or some other variant where appropriate.

Kotatsu – A kotatsu is a low, wooden table frame covered by a futon, or heavy blanket, upon which a table top sits. Underneath is a heat source, often built into the table itself. Read more here.

Bracchio’s Line – “One cannot catch an octopus without entering its kotatsu-bra.”
This is a… unique take on a different proverb. The original proverb goes as such: “One cannot catch a tiger’s cub without entering the tiger’s den”.

See you guys next week!

Michela and Voff go off on a wild and crazy tour through Tokyo and Yukito shows a rather… different side of himself.

In our second adventure, be careful what you wish for in this episode of over literal wishes. Genies are total dicks.

Episode 24 Notes:
Ganguro – What Michela is refering to is a unique fashion style. More here.

Kogal – What Dr. Nakadai is refering to is yet another unique fashion style. More here.

Titan – This would-be Giganoid is named after Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan”.

From the New World – This actual Giganoid is named after Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”.

Bracchio’s Line – “You are all beautiful, even more than flowers-bra.”
This comes from a Denziman insert song, “Kagayake! Denziman!” or “Shine! Denziman!”.

Episode 25 Notes:
Flypinax – This Trinoid’s name is Haenmatsu. Fly (hae), votive tablets (enma) and pinecones (matsu). We used pinax for the votive tablet part of his name just to be concise.

Bracchio’s Line – “The war continues… Stop the battle-bra!”
This is from GoggleV’s ED song, “Stop the Battle!”.

We’re taking a small break next week due to irl stuff, but we’ll be back with more Aba for you the week after! See you guys then!
